The S.T.O.P. PLEDGE

1.     I think it's wrong that our government continues to spend money, whether for domestic or defense spending, or entitlements, that it does not have.

2.    I think it's wrong that every American student will graduate from high school with a debt of over $47,000 that they had nothing to do with.

3.    I will not let my legacy to our kids be crippling debt.

4.     I will insist that President Obama and Congress take steps to reduce the debt or they will lose my vote.

5.     I will be a guardian of the next generation so that it is not financially enslaved.

6.    I will tell anyone who will listen to Stop Taxing Our Pupils! Start Teaching Our Posterity!

The current US debt is:

The population of the U.S. is 311,252,811. Each citizen's share of the debt is over $47,000. This is a real debt that will have to be paid one day. The national debt has increased by $4.12 billion per day since September 28, 2007! The present generation has received three recent tax cuts while spending by both political parties has gone through the roof.  But taxes have not been cut; they’ve simply been shifted to a future tax-payer (our kids).  When the goverment spends money it does not have, and cuts taxes for the current generation, it is essentially taxing the next generation. This is wrong and unfair.

                                              STOP 2011-2012

Beginning with the 2012-2013 school year, we will offer a $47,000 college scholarship (the equivalent of each American's share of the debt) for four years of college to at least one current (2011-2012) San Diego high school senior.   The first step, which just concluded on November 23, 2011, was to write a 1,000 word essay on "Why the national debt matters to young people" in the form of a letter to President Obama, Speaker of the House John Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.   Twenty-five students have been selected as finalists and will be asked to do two things in 2012: 1) Write a letter to the editor of a San Diego newspaper in response to an article about the national debt and/or deficits, and 2) Participate in a speech contest and debate on the same topic.

All non-high school students, including parents, grandparents, neighbors, business people, San Diegans and Americans from every walk of life that would like to help, contribute, or simply provide input,  please contact us.
