STOP 2011-2012
Beginning with the 2012-2013 school year, we will offer a $47,000 college scholarship (the equivalent of each American's share of the debt) for four years of college to at least one current (2011-2012) San Diego high school senior. The first step, which just concluded on November 23, 2011, was to write a 1,000 word essay on "Why the national debt matters to young people" in the form of a letter to President Obama, Speaker of the House John Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. Twenty-five students have been selected as finalists and will be asked to do two things in 2012: 1) Write a letter to the editor of a San Diego newspaper in response to an article about the national debt and/or deficits, and 2) Participate in a speech contest and debate on the same topic.
All non-high school students, including parents, grandparents, neighbors, business people, San Diegans and Americans from every walk of life that would like to help, contribute, or simply provide input, please contact us.
